You know what actually this part really pissed me off. Not that people stood behind Harry but because Pansy is being vilified for that totally legitimate action: Voldemort, the terror of their time, the dark wizard of all dark wizards, is going to spare their lives if he’s given this ONE KID. These are all children, she wants her life, she wants her friends to live, she doesn’t want war and fighting and death. She thinks sacrificing that one life is better than causing the deaths of all these other people, including herself. And everyone acts like this is a shameful decision and she’s a horrible person for thinking it, well fuck that.
And then ALL the Slytherins get locked up in the dungeon as if they’re going to turn traitor on them, completely negating any sense of unity and friendship that the stupid hat was singing about a couple books back. Fuck this scene and the judgey people and couldn’t someone have looked at Pansy sympathetically and said the fighting wouldn’t end with that one sacrifice or that Voldemort was too far gone and too evil to be bargaining with and that this was worth fighting for? Couldn’t they have been given any sympathy or understanding at all?
Bold mine. This scene bothered me, too. There wasn’t one Slytherin that was ever seen in a sympathetic light and I find that that was one of the weaknesses of the Harry Potter series. One house can’t all be evil and everyone treats them like outsiders, anyway. The ones who might actually be “good” are lumped up with the rest of the bad apples, especially in Harry’s eyes. Therefore, the view of Slytherins is entirely skewed and I was never a big fan of that.

Draco Malfoy, crying in a bathroom. Harry, watching him, clearly shocked to the point of feeling empathy because Draco has feelings and he’s in pain. Draco Malfoy, bidden to kill Dumbledore and failing to do so; Harry, once again watching him, noticing that he was going to drop his wand. Hermione, kindly repairing the brass scales of the Slytherin first year girl who was actually Crabbe or Goyle, because “she” dropped them. And. So. Fucking. On.
I’m sorry all you did was watch the movies and therefore can’t get through your head that in the books, you know, the actual series, the Slytherins were given the chance to flee Hogwarts and head to safety. They weren’t locked in a dungeon, they were given the chance (and took it) to go away and be with their loved ones, who might I add some were Death Eaters and it didn’t matter, because the teachers escorted them as safely as they fucking could.
And as for Pansy, clearly you must have never read the books or you would have known she wasn’t implying she was scared in this scene, she was implying “fuck Potter” because her boo Malfoy always seemed to dislike the boy and she wanted his dick. It’s called lack of personality, and that’s all it is. Not only that, but she’s like “someone grab him!” but 1) she makes no motion to grab him herself, and 2) no other Slytherin is even MOVING nor in the book does any Slytherin make any motion at all to go fetch him.
So no, go search for social justice somewhere else. If this one fucking scene bothers any of you this much, go actually read the books, they’re much better than the movies anyway.
